Awra Amba

The Awra Amba Experience is an interactive project about a small weaving community located in the Amhara region, in Northern Ethiopia. In development is an interactive web experience where people can “visit” the village and choose their own journey through it via 360° panoramas and short documentaries.

They follow a humanist philosophy including gender equality, democratic decision-making and solidarity. Early marriage has been replaced by education. Instead of aid, they work hard and strive for sustainable development. Religious practices have been abandoned, instead respecting all human beings, despite colour, race or gender, equally.

In 2010, as part of The Pixel Lab mentoring program, I worked with Paulina Tervo of Write This Down to develop the concept and plan the experience design.
