Spirit of UC101

Looking over my work, and what my work now overtly focuses on with more nuance after all my learnings, it is an enlivening that beckons my design.

I found a quote from Joseph Campbell that resonates with what I do. I share it here with the intentional framing that this drawing on Campbell’s work is not a adherence to all things white and male. After years of actively ignoring his work, I have looked back and recognised some elements that ring true for me at this point in time. The notion of the singular, male, hero, of course does not ring true. But the spirit of the work that creative efforts involve, does.

“The passage of the mythological hero may be overground, incidentally; fundamentally it is inward–into depths where obscure resistances are overcome, and long lost, forgotten powers are revivified, to be made available for the transfiguration of the world.”

Joseph Campbell, The Hero of the Thousand Faces, 1949.
