For years Christy Dena has been providing a range of services to agencies, production companies, organisations, corporations and individual practitioners.
1. Strategy & Design for Transmedia-Native Projects
I’m brought in by agencies, production houses and students to either execute or assist in the design of a cross/transmedia project. I work with the commissioning team to develop the high-level design of a cross/transmedia project. This entails determining the core thematic essence and experience of the project, selection of media channels and artforms, plot and game mechanic design (if applicable), choreography of the rollout, traversal design (calls to action). All of these are developed according to the artistic and economic goals of the project, as well as the skills of the team. Deliverables include an extensive Universe Guide (transmedia bible) which includes design and delivery details about the entire project in a manner that facilitates continuity across producers and, according to the needs of the project, can also include future possible design directions; Project Universe Execution Chart, which details the media channels and timeline of the rollout; multiple presentations and reports according to iterative design schedules…
2. Transmedia Expansion of an Existing Project
I’m often brought in to develop an existing project across media. These projects can be a feature film, documentary, television show, novel, digital game and so on. Practitioners, producers or sponsors approach me to develop a project that extends organically the experience for both artistic and economic reasons. I work to determine the core essence of the project, capabilities of the production team, goals and budget to ensure a well-integrated project is developed.
3. Transmedia Story & Game Analyst
I’m often called in to analyse the design of a project during the early develop stage or later before moving into production. Either the practitioners who designed the project or the sponsors commission my services to check if the story works across media; whether the activities and games are fun and compliment the overall experience; whether people would want to spend time on with it; whether it will appeal to the participants targeted; and whether it fulfills the artistic and economic goals. I provide a detailed analysis of what needs fixing, why and how before more money is spent…and to make it even more excellent.
4. Public Speaking
I present on changes to entertainment, arts and marketing for film, television, arts, gaming, literature and academic audiences…specialising, of course, in fictions across media.
5. Educator
I design lectures and workshops for festivals, organisations and corporations both large and small-scale about changes to entertainment, and how to strategise and design for these changes. See the speaking page for public lectures and also the workshops page.
6. Mentor
I mentor film, TV, literature and new media practitioners (both early and experienced) on transmedia design, writing, rollout and strategy.
6. Writer (non-fiction)
I have have been commissioned to write articles and chapters on a variety of new media artforms, events and changes to entertainment and marketing.
7. Judge
Funding bodies, festivals, organisations, corporations and universities call on me to judge and assess various trans/cross-media and new media art projects.
